Artist, bicyclist, eclecticist, musician, singer, producer, former Talking Heads frontman, and consummate New Yorker David Byrne also adds the titles of internet rado D.J. and Program Director to his extensive skill set.

radio_tower_waves-300x82DB is the one behind his commercial-free internet radio station, aptly titled Radio DavidByrne.com. On his internet radio station, David showcases a monthly-updated playlist of an incredibly eclectic mix of music for all of us to enjoy. In past months, I’ve heard David’s moods range from indie and alternative rock and pop to Cuban to Brazilian to whatever. His choices are always a welcome surprise that are always comfortably off the radar.

The quality of DB’s internet station is fantastic, streaming in full stereo at 128 kbps, 44 kHz, and it is available via iTunes radio in the Eclectic section (“Radio DavidByrne.com” is the name of the stream). I have my iTunes connected wirelessly to my stereo in one of the auxiliary channels via AirTunes and AirPort Express, which means I can listen on my home stereo. For more info on how to do that, check it out on Apple’s website: http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/

You can also find the radio stream on David’s website at http://www.davidbyrne.com/radio/index.php and listen on your computer via David’s player. Another listening option is on the iPhone or iPod Touch. There are several internet radio apps in the App Store. The one I use for David’s playlist as well as other internet radio favorites is called Tuner Internet Radio. As of this writing, the app costs $5.99. But considering that it streams free (and commercial-free) streaming content, I think it’s well worth it.

Enjoy Radio DavidByrne.com! I’m thrilled to find an artist and aesthete taking full advantage of the amazing digital tools at our disposal and sharing amazing content for our enjoyment.
