I had the distinct pleasure of reconnecting with John Bartlett today down at his shop on 7th Avenue South just below Charles Street. John designed the costumes for a play I did back in 2002, giving me a chance to get to know him a little and to wear his duds. (In addition to a pair of his own oxford shoes from his own closet, my favorite costume piece was a beautiful grey wool John Bartlett suit with a flourescent camouflage silk lining. Fantastic.)
Anyway, I made my over to his shop today in search of a new scarf for the winter. In brief, I found it. Among the many amazing shirts, sweaters, jackets, pants, belts and other accessories (as well as Taschen’s latest Tom of Finland coffee table book), John has a great collection of wool scarves that are like a long sleeve of a sweater (shown in the photo). Several terrific colors, and I took one in dark green (moss?). I also took a handsome glen plaid tie off his hands.
Gents… do yourselves a favor and head down to 7th & Charles. John’s smart, warm and intimate shop is beautifully appointed with great-looking pieces that reflect his inimitable style.
