Another gorgeous Web site possible only with Adobe Flash… The official Rickie Lee Jones Website.
On a textured montage canvas of fantastic photos and video footage, the simple, smooth and easily navigable interface is an absolute delight, particularly for a fan. The site, like most recording artist main Web sites, is essentially an online career portfolio with some links to other “satellite” properties, like a blog, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, a store, etc.
Rickie’s site features a nice dose of multimedia – one of Flash’s strongsuits: audio, videos and photos, all arranged in a fluid and consistently branded interface, with design detailed down to the scrollbars, play/pause buttons, and footer. And each page loads very quickly, with a simple, snappy and unobtrusive preloader that blends seamlessly with the rest of the site’s aesthetic.
My only criticism would be that the site all lives at one URL (rickieleejones.com) instead of unique URLs for each page (e.g. rickieleejones.com/#/videos), requiring the visitor to always “go through the front door” when revisiting a specific page, like tour dates. Unique URLs are quite doable in Flash with Javascript (swfobject and swfaddress).
But… Very Rickie. Very nice. An absolutely delightful user experience only possible with Adobe Flash.
