Most would agree that AT&T and its 3G network sucks, but there is no not loving the iPhone. I got my first iPhone in August of 2008 and I’ve had it replaced twice due to hardware glitches in the phone itself (Apple just swapped it out for free).
It has its problems (most of them relating to AT&T’s sub-standard network), but in relation to other mobile devices, it is bar none the sexiest handheld available. Aside from the countless options in the App Store in iTunes, the iPhone, in conjunction with Apple’s MobileMe, has provided flawless networking and backup of all my contacts and calendars. I cringe at horror stories of other people desperate to re-collect lost contacts because their phone was lost or stolen, but this puppy and the MobileMe account have my back.
And the apps? Well, I’m more of a utilitarian here. The apps I use tend to have a practical purpose, like Facebook, TweetDeck, LinkedIn, The New York Times, Flixster (for movies), Skype, The Weather Channel, Google (useful for my Google Account), Dictionary, White/Yellow Pages, Barnes & Noble, Flight Status, iHandy Level, and others. I also use music apps like SomaFM’s internet radio app. The only game I have is Solitaire (Sol Free), which I mostly play when I’m on the subway or other place where there is no network.
As I said, my iPhone is not perfect, but it is undeniably the smartest mobile on the market for me and my lifestyle and an invaluable tool for my work.
