Stories, ideas, links about music. Music is a favorite subject of mine, and a great deal of my clients are in the industry. I’m a huge fan (and advocate) of digital delivery of music, which means no physical merchandise. I know, I know… “I want to be able to hold it, and open the booklet, look at the artwork. Digital doesn’t let me do that.” Wah wah wah.

Of the many great things about digital formats, there is no such thing as “out of stock” or “backorder.” There are no printing costs. There is no paper. There is no limit to the number of pages an artist can incorporate into a digital booklet. There is no plastic. (There is a floating island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean the size of Texas… composed entirely of discarded plastic.) And no shelf space issues in your apartment.

With digital, there are boundless possibilities of release options, like adding bonus photos, releasing full-quality audio files (as opposed to mp3s), liner notes, HD video supplements, etc. The only occasion on which I now purchase CDs is when there is no digital version available.

It’s great for us, great for the artist, great for the environment.

Hope you enjoy!
